There are some times when the built-in photocell on a monolight or powerpack cannot receive enough light to trigger the flash.
The shape of the Omnicell allows it to see light from a broader angle range, giving it a greater chance to fire your flash.
The Omnicell can also be used with a sync extension cord to place the cell in a better position where it can see the master flash.
